Local SEO Checklist for Ibadan Businesses (2026 Guide)

A local SEO checklist for Ibadan businesses: Google Business Profile, reviews, NAP, local pages, citations and Search Console.

If your customers are in Ibadan, the first job is not a generic keyword from another country. It is whether someone searching nearby can tell who you are, where you are, and what you do. This checklist is the order we use at Triumphant HQ, on Basorun Rd, when an Ibadan or Oyo State business asks for local SEO. It is not a second sales page. The service itself is on SEO in Ibadan.

Work through it in order. Skipping to blog posts while the site cannot be crawled wastes the writing.

1. Confirm the business Google should describe

Write down the public facts and do not decorate them:

  • •Legal or trading name, exactly as you want it repeated
  • •Street address you are willing to publish (ours is Basorun Rd, Ibadan 211107, Oyo State — we do not invent a street number)
  • •Phone number that is answered
  • •The one website URL that should be canonical, with https and without a stray www if that is not your preferred host
  • •The services you actually sell, in the words customers use
  • •The areas you genuinely cover

If the footer, the Google Business Profile and a Facebook page each tell a slightly different story, fix that before you write anything new. Google is not obliged to guess which version is real.

2. Give the site one preferred host

Open the site as http, as www, and as the bare domain. They should not all return a normal page. One version should answer, and the others should redirect to it. A canonical tag that points at a host you do not redirect to leaves copies in play.

While you are there, check that the sitemap URL in robots.txt is the same host. A sitemap on a host you have abandoned does not help the live site.

3. See what Google has already indexed

In Google Search Console, open the pages report and the sitemap report. You want three lists:

  • •URLs you care about that are indexed
  • •URLs you care about that are not
  • •URLs indexed that you would rather Google forgot

The third list is where old campaigns, tag pages and duplicate hosts hide. Do not celebrate a large indexed count if half of it is noise.

If you do not have Search Console, that is step zero. Verify the property for the canonical host, submit the sitemap, and give it time before you judge anything.

4. One title, one description, one H1

On each important page — home, each service, contact — check:

  • •The title is unique and says the service and, where it is true, the place. Keep it short enough that it is not cut off in the result.
  • •The meta description is unique and under about 155 characters. It is an invitation, not a keyword list.
  • •The page has one H1. Footer labels and card titles should not be H1s.
  • •The title in the browser matches the title you intend for social shares.

If two pages share a title, Google has to choose. On our own site, the Ibadan SEO page and the Nigeria SEO page used to sit too close together. Separating them was the point of the rebuild, and the same mistake shows up on client sites as “Services” repeated on every URL.

5. Make the important pages reachable

A page that is only in the sitemap, and not linked from a menu, a footer or a relevant article, is easy to treat as an orphan. Click from the homepage to each service. If you cannot, a customer cannot, and a crawler may not bother.

Internal links should use the words a person would use. “SEO company in Ibadan” pointing at the Ibadan page is a real instruction. “Click here” is not.

6. Treat the Google Business Profile as part of the site

For a local business, the map result is often the first impression. The checklist inside the profile is short:

  • •The name is the real business name. Do not add “best SEO Ibadan” or any other search phrase to it.
  • •The primary category matches what you mainly do. Secondary categories can cover the rest.
  • •The website field uses the canonical URL.
  • •Services listed on the profile exist on the website.
  • •Photos are of the real place, the real work, or the real team.
  • •The address and phone match the website exactly.
  • •You can receive messages, and someone actually replies.

A fuller walk-through is in How to rank on Google Maps in Ibadan. Nothing in either guide guarantees a map-pack place. Reviews, distance and competitors decide a lot of that.

7. Ask for reviews without scripting them

If customers have had a good experience, ask them — by WhatsApp is normal in Ibadan — to leave a review in their own words. Do not hand them a sentence to paste. Do not offer a discount for a five-star review. Reply to the reviews you get, including the awkward ones.

A profile with two reviews is a different proposition from a profile with dozens. There is no honest shortcut. The agencies that show in the Ibadan map pack have usually been collecting reviews for a long time.

8. Publish pages only where you have something to say

A service page should answer: who it is for, what is included, how the work runs, and what you will not promise. A location page should exist only if you serve that place and can say how.

Neighbourhoods we actually name — Akobo, Bashorun, Bodija, Challenge, Ojoo — already have notes on this site because the local desk and the agency work reach them. We do not create a new URL for every estate in Ibadan with the same paragraph. If you are tempted to, don’t. Link those areas from a single strong page instead.

9. Write one useful article, then link it upward

An article can rank for a question (“how do I get on Google Maps?”) and send the reader to the service page. It should not try to be the service page. Give it a specific title, a specific excerpt, and two or three links to related guides plus one link to the commercial page.

Publish when you have something to say. A calendar full of thin posts does not create authority. It creates a site that looks busy and says little.

10. Check the technical blockers before you blame “the algorithm”

The usual ones in the audits we do:

  • •Sitemap missing the URLs you care about, or full of URLs you do not
  • •More than one H1
  • •Titles and descriptions copied across templates
  • •No structured data, or structured data that claims a rating, a price or an address the page does not show
  • •Images so heavy the phone gives up
  • •A contact path that only works on desktop

You do not need a hundred-point score. You need the pages that make money to be crawlable, understandable and fast enough on a phone.

11. Keep name, address and phone identical everywhere

Pick the string once. Use it on the website, the Business Profile, and any directory you claim. “Bashorun” and “Basorun Rd” are not an excuse to invent a house number on one listing and omit it on another. If you do not have a number you are willing to publish, publish the same street-level address everywhere, or none of them.

When you claim an old listing, correct the name. A Facebook page, a YouTube description and the website should not sound like three companies.

12. Report what changed, monthly

Once a month, look at Search Console with whoever owns the business:

  • •Queries that showed the site
  • •Pages that received those impressions
  • •Coverage problems still open
  • •What you changed since the last look
  • •What you are not doing, and why

If you have analytics, add the organic landing pages. If a number was not measured — traffic growth, a ranking, a revenue figure — leave it out. A honest “this query is still on page three” is more useful than a chart with no source.

What this checklist is not

It is not a promise of first position for “SEO in Ibadan” or for your own service terms. Technical repairs can show in weeks. Competitive phrases take months, and some do not move. Anyone who guarantees number one is selling a result they do not control.

It is also not a price list. Scope depends on how broken the site is, how many pages you need, and whether you want an audit, a fix, or a monthly programme. We do not publish a fee on the Ibadan SEO page.

If the customers you want are spread across Nigeria rather than concentrated in Ibadan and Oyo State, use the SEO company in Nigeria page. The office is still in Ibadan. The job is different, and the URL should be too.

A sensible first week

1. Verify Search Console on the canonical host.

2. Make http and www redirect to that host.

3. Match the Business Profile to the footer.

4. Give each money page its own title, description and H1.

5. Link those pages from the homepage and the menu.

6. Ask three real customers for a review, with no script.

That week will not “rank” you. It will stop the site arguing with itself. The free SEO snapshot is a short version of the same look, if you would rather not start alone.
