How to Rank on Google Maps in Ibadan: GBP Guide (2026)

How Ibadan businesses get considered for the Google Maps pack: categories, services, photos, reviews, posts and matching contact details.

The map pack sits above the ordinary blue links for a lot of Ibadan searches. People looking for a clinic, a school, a designer or an agency often choose from those three profiles before they ever scroll. This guide is how to make a Google Business Profile worth choosing. It is not a method for forcing your way into the pack, and it is not an invitation to stuff the business name with keywords.

Triumphant HQ’s own profile is a useful caution. The public listing people see is for Triumphant Technological Services, with a computer-support category and very few reviews, while the agencies already in the Ibadan pack have dozens or hundreds of reviews and categories closer to marketing or web design. Category and review count are doing more work than a clever sentence on the website. If you want the website side of local SEO, that lives on SEO in Ibadan. The checklist is the wider order of work.

What the pack is actually judging

Google’s local results lean on three plain ideas:

  • •Relevance. Does the profile look like the thing that was searched?
  • •Distance. How close is the business to the person searching, or to the place they named?
  • •Prominence. Do other signals — reviews, links, a consistent name — suggest this is a real, known business?

You can improve relevance and prominence. You cannot move your office closer to a searcher in Challenge if you are in Bashorun, and you should not pretend you have a desk in every district. Distance is why a search from Akobo and a search from Ojoo can show different businesses for the same words.

1. Claim the profile and prove you control it

Sign in at the Google Business Profile manager and confirm the listing is yours. If the public panel still offers strangers a way to “own” the business, verification is not finished. Do that before you spend a week on photos.

Use the real business name. Triumphant Technological Services stays Triumphant Technological Services. Adding “SEO Ibadan” or “best agency” to the name breaks the guidelines. Competitors who do it are not a template. Suspension is a boring way to disappear from Maps entirely.

2. Pick a primary category you can defend

The primary category is the label Google leans on. Choose the one that describes the main job, not a keyword you wish you ranked for. Secondary categories can cover the rest of what you honestly do.

If you are a marketing firm, a marketing or website category belongs in the mix. If you also run a separate desk — we run NIN and BVN support beside the agency — keep a category that still fits that desk, or you will confuse the people who come for it. Do not collect categories for services you do not offer. A profile that claims everything is a profile that matches nothing.

3. Make the website field the canonical URL

The link on the profile should be https, on the host you want indexed, and ideally the page that matches the visit. For a single-purpose local business that is often the homepage. For us, a sensible local-search destination is the Ibadan SEO page, not an old www address that only redirects.

Check the link on a phone. If it hops through two redirects, or lands on a page about a different offer, fix the field. The profile and the page should describe the same business.

4. List services you can point to on the site

Add services with a short, true description. Each one should exist as a section or a page on the website. If the profile offers “technical SEO audits” and the site never mentions an audit, the two are not the same business.

Put the services you want to be hired for at the top. A profile that leads with unrelated products — a bundle, a prompt pack, a side offer — teaches Google and the customer the wrong summary. Move those down, or take them off, if they are not the local service.

5. Write a description a neighbour could check

You have a few hundred characters. Use them for where you are, what you do, who it is for, and how to start. Mention the real street area. Mention the year you started if it is true. Do not claim to be number one, and do not paste a list of every neighbourhood in Ibadan.

A description can say you serve Oyo State from an Ibadan office. It should not say you have branches you do not have.

6. Use photos of the real place

The photos that help are boring in the best way: the outside of the office, the sign, the room clients sit in, the team at work, and screenshots of work you are allowed to show. Exterior photos also help a person coming to Basorun Rd, or to your own street, recognise the building.

Upload a few, then add more over the following months. A profile with one logo and a stock skyline does not look like a place someone can visit. Name the files sensibly if the upload asks. Do not geotag a photo to a neighbourhood you were not in.

7. Set hours you will actually keep

Put the hours you answer, not the hours you wish you answered. If you need a WhatsApp message before a visit — we do, so nobody crosses Ibadan for a closed door — say that on the website and stick to the hours on the profile. A “open” flag when the office is shut trains people not to trust the listing.

If you take appointments, add the booking link you really use.

8. Reviews: ask, don’t write them

This is the gap that separates a tidy profile from one that shows in the pack. The Ibadan pack leaders that show up for SEO-related searches have review counts in the tens and hundreds. A new or quiet profile will not jump that queue because the description was rewritten.

Ask customers who have finished a piece of work. Send the review link. Let them describe what happened. Do not offer a gift for a star rating, and do not gate the request so only happy people are asked in a way that hides the rest. Reply to every review. A short, specific reply is enough. A paste of “thanks for choosing the best SEO company in Ibadan” is not a reply. It is an advertisement on top of someone else’s words.

9. Posts are optional. Consistency is not.

A weekly post — a tip, a link to a guide, a note about a service — gives the profile a pulse. Link the button to a real page, such as the local SEO checklist or the service page. Do not post the same sentence with a new neighbourhood name each Friday.

If you will not keep a weekly rhythm, do not start one and abandon it after a fortnight. Photos and reviews matter more than a dormant post schedule.

10. Service area versus a fake address

If customers come to you, show the address. If you travel to them, you can set a service area, and you should still be honest about the base. Hiding the address and then targeting half of Nigeria from one Ibadan desk does not create a local result in Lagos. A Google Business Profile is for a place. A business with real branches needs a profile per branch, each with its own proof. A business with one office needs one profile.

We will not build city doorway pages to imitate branches. That applies to client sites and to this one.

11. Match the name, address and phone everywhere else

After the profile is clean, make the website footer, the contact page and any directory you have claimed use the same details. Small differences — “Rd” versus “Road”, an old phone, a Facebook name that drops a word — are how duplicates are born. Duplicates split reviews and confuse the map.

Search the business name. Claim the listings that are yours. Leave the ones that are a different company. Correcting ten real listings beats submitting the business to fifty directories you will never log into again.

12. Read the performance tab, not a rumour

The profile has its own performance view: searches that showed the listing, calls, website clicks, direction requests. Check it when you check Search Console. If the website clicks go to the wrong URL, change the website field. If the searches are for a service you no longer want, look at the categories and the services list before you blame the algorithm.

Give changes a few weeks. Categories and review velocity do not redraw the pack the same afternoon.

What we will not tell you to do

  • •Add the search phrase to the business name
  • •Buy reviews
  • •Drop your link under unrelated Instagram posts and call it marketing
  • •Create a profile for a city where you have no staff and no address
  • •Promise a client that they will be in the three-pack by a date

Those tactics show up because they are visible in other people’s results. Visibility is not the same as safety. The profiles that last are the ones a customer can visit or call and find the business that was described.

If you want this done with the website

The profile and the site have to agree. A strong Maps listing that links to a thin page, or a strong page that links to a profile in a different category, wastes both. The practical starting point is still a look at the site — the free SEO snapshot — and a pass over the profile using the list above.

For the commercial service, use SEO company in Ibadan. If the work is national rather than local, the SEO company in Nigeria page is the other door. The office, either way, is on Basorun Rd in Ibadan.
